My name is Christina Holtz and I started Holtz German Shepherds with my husband to provide quality, health tested, and titled dogs. I am a small breeder and have limited available puppies. I focus on reaching my dogs' potential, and since each dog is different, I am involved in a variety of dog sports. I often train all my dogs myself.
German Shepherds truly are the best dogs! From family companionship, search and rescue, police work, hunting, service, therapy, or sport, they are one of the most versatile breeds in the world. They are not only stunning animals, their intelligence and loyalty is unmatched.
My dad was an Army Brat and his dad was stationed in Germany for a period of time. My dad always had German Shepherds, so this is all his fault really. 😉 Anyways, he'd always tell me the funniest stories of his shepherd and the tricks they'd play together. It was true friendship. The stories continued on and after growing up with them, I wanted no other breed. The German Shepherd is perfect.
It started as ownership, but then my shepherd I bought from what I thought was a reputable breeder developed hip dysplasia. I thought I did my research, but I didn't do enough. My dad's shepherd growing up had degenerative myelopathy (DM). These are all awful diseases, largely genetic. I was heartbroken. My next shepherd had elbow dysplasia and an over-bite. It simply wouldn't end with the heartbreak. I decided from then on, I would begin to develop a small breeding program to focus on health as the #1 priority. I never want anyone to go through what I had to. It wasn't fair to me. It wasn't fair to my dogs.
I have five wonderful shepherds: Genesis, Moses, Jubilee Reign, Samson, and Revelations! The #1 ingredient I give my dogs is love. I put my heart and soul into them and always put them first. I take them everywhere; sometimes at the grumbling of others, but if you get me, you get my dogs. 😁 I want everyone to have what I have. To feel what I feel. There's no better dog in the world. I want to give people that.
